The game

What is Mortuus?

A round-based co-op zombies FPS for 1–4 players by Hamuno. Every run builds a new procedurally generated brutalist map. You buy doors, find the power, take guns from walls or the Mystery Box, buy perks, upgrade guns at the Gun Ascension altar and draft one upgrade per round.

Who makes Mortuus?

Hamuno is listed on Steam as both developer and publisher.

Is Mortuus like Call of Duty Zombies?

Players and press compare it to CoD Zombies’ round-based formula. The big difference is the map: Mortuus generates a new one every run instead of using fixed maps.

How many guns are in Mortuus?

Over 30 per Steam, with more weapons planned after launch.

When does Mortuus release?

January 11, 2027, on Steam (details).

How much is Mortuus?

Planned price $14.99; a $19.99 Supporter Pack is being considered; launch discount for the first few weeks; no pre-orders.

Is there a Mortuus demo?

Yes, free on Steam since October 14, 2026, with co-op and the map editor. It caps runs at round 25 and goes offline about 1–2 weeks before launch (demo guide).

Does demo progress carry over?

No. Stats, levels and other demo progress will not transfer to the full release.

Platforms

Is Mortuus on Xbox or PS5?

No console version has been announced. Steam lists Windows, macOS and Linux (platforms).

Does Mortuus run on Steam Deck?

Valve hasn’t rated it, but players report the demo runs smoothly on Deck. It has full controller support.

Does Mortuus have split-screen?

Not announced; it supports online co-op only.

Gameplay

How do I turn on the power?

Find the door with a red light above it (players say it’s labelled “Door to Power”) and flip the switch in the generator room (power guide).

How do I do the Easter egg?

Players report collecting three hearts from zombies in certain rooms and offering them at the Gun Ascension altar to open the Mother’s boss room. Not officially confirmed (Easter egg guide).

What does the purple light mean?

It marks the Gun Ascension room.

Can you continue after round 25 in the demo?

After wave 25 the team can vote “JUST ONE MORE ROUND” for one final wave.

Can I make my own maps?

Yes — the demo includes a map editor and maps are shared on the Steam Workshop (map editor guide).

Technical

Why does my antivirus flag Mortuus?

The developer says it’s a false positive on a new, unsigned executable that reports gameplay stats; a Microsoft review was pending. Only install from Steam.

Why does Mortuus stutter when I turn?

High mouse polling rates (~2000 Hz+) triggered an engine input issue; the developer published a fix. Lowering polling rate is a quick test (fixes).
